It’s OK to lie, honest, the U.S. Supreme Court says so - Inside Tucson Business: Roger Yohem: It’s official: the First Amendment that protects free speech now includes the right to lie. Fib. Deceive. Tell falsehoods. Honestly, the U.S. Supreme Court says it’s true. This summer, The Supremes ruled it is legal to lie about being a war hero. Their decision crushed the little-known Stolen Valor Act of 2006. The act made it a federal crime for a person to falsely claim, fake or lie about having received military honors. The case focused on Xavier Alvarez, a public official in Pomona, Calif. After winning election to a local water board, he boldly claimed to be a 25-year Marine and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Neither was true and he was the first person charged and convicted under the law.
